Aztecs make it Clear: They want Leitner

The roadblocks have been removed. And as far as San Diego State athletic director Jeff Schemmel is concerned, the path has been paved for Ted Leitner to remain as voice of the Aztecs for football and men's basketball on the university's new radio station -- KOGO (600 AM)."We've made it very clear," Schemmel said. "Our desire is to keep Ted as our voice.

"We've had discussions with the Padres and Sandy Alderson, and Ted has the OK to miss a few Padres games to call our games.

Fake US labels a foreign concept

On the mostly uncharted dressy end of my closet, I finally found a piece of clothing I could feel patriotic about owning. The label on the blue pin-striped sport coat read, Made in U.S.A. by American Craftsmen. The red, white and blue-splashed tag stood out compared to the fine print that identified the other countries where my threads were made. I could tell you that brought back memories of the day I bought it out of national pride. No, I cant lie in front of the miniature American flags on my desk, even though they were made in China. Actually, that was probably the first time I read the coats label beyond the part assuring a washing machine would shrink it into a Smurf suit. Checking my inventory only came to mind after reporter Michael Burkes story on Thursday about the investigation of a local company.

Never again paying too much for concert tickets

(Sponsored post) A few days ago I was asked if I would be interested to write something about the US concert / theater and sports ticket reseller Ticket Liquidator. At first I must say I was rather hesitant, knowing that many of these resellers ask outrageous prices. But when I actually checked out the website of www.ticketliquidator.com I was surprised. Not only did it offer reasonable prices, they on top had the option for people like you and me to sell tickets to other people and this at very reasonable conditions. Let's have a look. First of all I went looking for the prices of some very wanted tickets. I took the upcoming The Police world tour which is by far the most hyped tour ever to take place since years. The result: they had some dead cheap tickets up for The Police shows in the US, priced only 55 US$.

The Triforce of Wisdom: Importance

A few things in gaming today are just not as important as they seem. A few others deserve a little more attention. The first in a three-part, three-writer combo attack gives an intelligent look into what is over and underrated in video games.

Overrated:

Menus
I think Metroid Prime 2: Echoes had a wonderfully slick menu. I also remember Catch Me if you Can had wonderfully slick opening credits. I didn't remember either until I started writing this. All I want out of a menu system is clarity. Options should be easy to find, selections should be obvious and save systems should be logical. In genres that rely on menu systems the need is magnified, but these are issues that should have been worked out a decade ago. The worst menu takes little away from the game, and the best adds nearly nothing.

The supermodel turned spokeswoman

When Tyra Banks was snapped on a beach looking 'fat' in a swimsuit, she seized the opportunity to turn the tabloid frenzy that followed into higher ratings for her American talk show. So, asks Euan Ferguson is she the new Oprah?

Demolition top Windsor legends reunion

Fans of the history of professional wrestling are in for a treat on April 1st. The first "Meet the Legends" convention will take place at the Ciociaro Club in Windsor, Ontario and features many names from the past, including the reuniting of three-time WWF tag team champions Demolition.

The event's promoter is Jim Turow, and he explained to SLAM! Wrestling how the reunion came about.

"We actually spoke with a few promoters, one got us in touch with Bill Eadie (Ax) and one with Barry Darsow (Smash)," said Turow. "I am really not sure why nobody has done this before. They haven't spoken in a long time but both of them have been great for us. Saturday night when we pick them up we are having the wrestlers together for some food and beer and they are really looking forward to that.

Proposed liberalisation of German betting market

The budget and fiscal policy spokespersons of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU) groupings in the federal states and the CDU/CSU grouping in the Bundestag resolved at a meeting in Stuttgart on April 17 that the lottery market in Germany would remain unchanged, as it is was already sufficiently regulated in a State Treaty dating from 2004. However, and most interestingly, they also proposed that the terms of a liberalised sports betting market should be drawn up in a separate State Treaty.

The Union's fiscal policymakers believe that the liberalisation of sports betting should be accompanied by the levying of a special incentive tax, which would be ring-fenced on the basis of the player's place of abode, thus assuring that the federal states receive a source of revenue from sports betting.
