Local Sports Report

Twice in two days, the Santa Cruz County Breakers 88 under-18 boys soccer team's California Cup matches in Turlock came down to the 10th penalty kick. And twice in two days, the Breakers 88 prevailed, advancing them to the California Youth Soccer Association State Championship match for the fifth time in six years.

The Breakers 88 will take on the San Juan Thunder in the state championship at noon Sunday at Robersons Park in Livermore. Regardless of the outcome, both teams will receive wildcard entries in the U18 bracket of the USYSA Far West Regionals, which will be held in Las Vegas on June 17-24.

After playing regulation and two overtimes in Saturday's quarterfinal, the Breakers 88 remained tied 2-2 with the San Juan Lightning. The teams then went shot for shot in penalty kicks until the Lightning's fifth penalty kick missed the goal, giving the Breakers 88 the win.

What's your fantasy?

These are just a few of the epic questions mankind has faced throughout history. Yet, as they remain unanswered, more daunting questions have come about over the years as fanatics around the world carry on conquests to conquer a land of make believe.

Albert Pujols, or Ryan Howard?

LaDainian Tomlinson, or Larry Johnson?

Tiger Woods, or well, you get the idea.

Ever since the first leagues were drawn up with pencil and paper more than 20 years ago, fantasy sports have expanded tremendously thanks to the Internet and too many married men with too much free time.

Sri Lanka declares Tait no threat

SRI Lanka has done extra homework on Australia's Cricket World Cup weapon Shaun Tait, and its players believe net sessions against their own super-slinger will help to disarm the South Australian's threat tonight.

Tait, with 14 wickets from seven games in his breakthrough tournament, will play Sri Lanka for the first time tonight, and Sri Lanka coach Tom Moody feels his side will be conditioned for the challenge.

Many sides over the years have felt the best way to beat Sri Lanka is to unsettle their batsmen with short-pitched bowling.

But Moody feels his players' constant exposure to Lasith Malinga, unlikely to play tonight because of injury, has readied them for the task of facing Tait, who has a similar action.

"They might find adjusting to Tait's line and trajectory a little bit easier given they are used to facing Malinga in the nets," Moody, who is expected to announce after the Cricket World Cup that he is heading home to coach Western Australia, said.

"Instead of looking where you traditionally look for the ball - over the top - they may be able to adjust slightly quicker than other teams.
