'Beastiality' radio clip misinterpreted - Morrison
Wellington city councillor John Morrison has defended a "prolonged and gratuitous" clip on his radio show representing a woman having sex with a bull. The 34-second clip, which played on Mr Morrison's Sunday morning Radio Sport slot, was deemed by the Broadcasting Standards Authority to have breached standards of good taste and decency. But Mr Morrison said that the clip, which followed Waikato's NPC rugby win over the Hurricanes in October, had been misinterpreted as bestiality. "That was the furthest thing from everyone's mind. It was a fun thing to do with (Waikato's mascot) Mooloo the cow, being happy and excited about winning the national championship." But Christchurch listener Howard Taylor, who laid the complaint, said yesterday that he could not see any humour in it.

Seventeen editor Ann Shoket, who we've affectionately dubbed Atoosa 2.0, says that Seventeen.com is set to relaunch next week with what the kids love: video. Speaking at the MPA digital conference, Shoket said that Seventeen's online mission is simple: "Is it fast? Is it cheap? Is it fun?" And she didn't say anything about a tribe, which is refreshing. Knesset member warns of threat from Iran
"The biggest threat to Israel's security is Iran and its extensions in the Middle East; Hezbollah in the north, and Hamas in Gaza," says Israeli Knesset member Limor Livnat, who serves on the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. The veteran lawmaker spoke to the CJN prior to her appearance at the kickoff event of the State of Israel Bonds campaign. Her speech Monday evening at Siegal College was co-sponsored by Ohio Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Livnat reports that Hamas is building concrete bunkers in Gaza and equipping itself with more long-range missiles, just as Hezbollah did before the 2006 Lebanon war."Syria, too, is menacing," she continues. "Not only is it engaging in weapons transfer in violation of U.N. resolution 1701, but it is preparing itself for war with Israel n enlarging its forces, stepping up training and amassing missiles and anti-aircraft weapons."These ominous developments caused her to wonder out loud if Israel will be able to defend itself should its enemies unite in an attack.
Toyota sales overtake General Motors in first quarter
Japan's Toyota Motor Corp. became the world's top selling automaker in the first quarter of 2007, overtaking US rival General Motors helped by brisk demand for fuel-efficient cars, figures showed Tuesday. Japan's top automaker sold 2.348 million vehicles in the first quarter of 2007, a company spokesman said, beating GM which earlier reported record global sales of 2.26 million cars and trucks for the same period. Toyota also reported global production of about 2.367 million vehicles for the first quarter, while GM has forecast lower output of 2.335 million units. Toyota is enjoying strong sales, particularly in the United States, as higher prices at the pump boost demand for compact cars, small sport utility vehicles and hybrids which use a mix of electricity and petrol.

Water babies given the chance to make a splash
Gone are those days when a trip to the local pool meant a few lengths of breast stroke - for Hounslow children, things have just got a lot more adventurous. Swimming is easily one of the most popular sports for children with girls rating it as their favourite. So Hounslow and five other west London authorities have tapped into this enthusiasm.
